Ghana’s bid to host CAN 2017 is misplaced priority- Kofi Amoah

Chairman of Ghana’s CAN 2008 bid committee, Dr. Kofi Amoah has exclusively told JOY Sports government’s intention to bid for the hosting rights of the 2017 Africa nations cup is a “misplaced priority”.

In a statement which will be of huge shock to Ghana’s 2017 African Cup bid committee  Dr Amoah added there is no justification for hosting the tournament for the second time in 10 years when  nothing was realized after government invested over US$350million in the 2008 tournament.

“Ghana going for the bid in 2017 is misplaced priority. Some of the  good things that were supposed to come after 2008 have not materialized.”

“I think that its suicidal , and criminal to invest people’s money and not finish it the way it’s should be finished, so that  it will benefit the people”.

“We need to be circumspect. Let’s do first things first. Why start something new when we haven’t properly dealt with the latter. That will be certainly in the wrong direction” he intimated.

Ghana submitted a bid to host the tournament in 2017,alongside  Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe , after initial host Libya was hit by some political crisis.

Egyptian authorities  announced their withdrawal from hosting the 2017  AFCON and instead supported Arab neighbors Algeria.

Ghana remains a huge favorite to win the bid.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to take a decision on the host country in April this year.
