Aduana Stars ended Ashanti Gold’s unbeaten run in 5 league games with a 1-0 win on match day 10 of the First Capital Plus Premier League at the Dormaa Nana Agyemang Badu II Park on Sunday.
The goal that secured Aduana Stars the three maximum points came from the foot of Elvis Opoku, top scorer of the 2014 Ghana FA Cup.
The Dormaa based side dominated play in the first 20 minutes of the game, but near misses, and fantastic goalkeeping from Robert Dabuo denied the home team a goal.
Ashgold responded to Aduana Stars incessant pressure by turning the tides in their favour within the final 25 minutes of play, however they also failed to break the deadlock in the first half.
Back from recess, Aduana Stars struck the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, when Elvis Opoku connected home a corner-kick from Godfred Saka, after the Ashgold defenders had cleared the ball from the goal area.
Ashgold improved on their game, pilling pressure on the Aduana defence, but the home team were resolute to calm the danger.
The win for the Dormaa boys is their first in 4 games over the Miners and has reduced the points gap between them to three.
