Ashia brace: Liberty edge Bechem at Karl Reindorf Park

A brace from Kennedy Ashia gave Liberty a 3-2 win over Bechem United at the  Karl Reindorf Park.Needing a win to move fruther away from the bottom half of the league,Liberty Professionals started the game on a fast pace, looking to unsettle their opponents with the pace of Bernard Arthur and  ex Bechem United forward Charles Dwamena in attack.Arthur in particular was guilty of missing gilt edged chances after making good runs into the Bechem United penalty area.

Bechem United slowly got into the game with star midfielder Noah Martey in particular testing Liberty goalkeeper Stephen Kwaku with a  series of shots. It was Liberty however who made the break through in the 24th minute when a melee in the Bechem penalty area led to the handling of a goal bound shot by  a defender.Kennedy Ashia converted his shot past goalkeeper Ernest Appiah to take the lead.

Bechem United were however gifted an equaliser on the verge of halftime with one of the bloopers of the season.A headed backpass from Liberty captain,Alfred Nelson looked easy enough for goalkeeper  Kwaku but he  contrived to mishandle the ball which rolled into his net to give Bechem United the equaliser.

The error seemed to have sapped the confidence of Kwaku as he fouled Bechem striker Prosper early in the second half to give Bechem United a chance to go into the league. Kwaku however redeemed himself with a diving save to his left to save Noah Martey’s penalty kick.

Liberty would make Bechem regret the missed chance as Bernard Arthur broke on a pass from Daniel Kodie to slam a shot past a helpLess Appiah for the second goal for Liberty.Mercurial Ashia, the highest scoring midfielder in the league for the past two seasons scored his fifth goal of the season as his shot sailed past Appiah for Liberty’s third.Yaw Mensah scored a late second for Bechem but Liberty held on to move up to fifth in the league table
