Tre punti importanti: Acquah stars in Sampdoria victory

Afriyie Acquah and his Sampdoria teammates are smiling again this evening following a second straight victory in Serie A.

Acquah lasted 67 minutes before getting replaced for the first time in Sampdoria colours with his side comfortably ahead courtesy a 33rd minute strike by De Silvestre before Samuel Eto’O made sure of teh points five minutes after Acquah’s substitution.

Another Ghanaian midfielder, Alfred Duncan will also get a taste of the action after replacing Eto’O on 86 minutes at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris but the scores remained the same for Sampdoria who earn second straight league victory after ending a 6-game winless run at Atalanta last Sunday.

The three points pushed Sampdoria up to 5th in Serie A, level on 42 points with Fiorentina who have Monday’s game at Lazio in hand nevetheless.

But for Cagliari and a third Ghanaian, Godfred Donsah, it was another bad day at the office as Gianfranco Zola’s men remained in the relegation zone on a mere 20 points from 26 Serie A matches of 2014/15 and a 5th defeat in the last 6 (1 point).

Worse for 18 year old wonderkid, Donsah who only last week revealed to Gazzeta dello Sports that Acquah bought him his first pair of football boots, he couldn’t recover from the injury that rocked his game against old club, Hellas Verona last Sunday.

These days however, Godfred Donsah has matured to become a midfield generalismo himself and would have fancied an afternoon’s battle in Serie A against his 23 year old mentor.

“I’ll never stop thanking him or Afriyie Acquah, who is my best friend. He helped me in Palermo, gave me some money and even gifted me my first football boots. I was accustomed to playing barefoot,” said Donsah who is expected to return for Cagliari’s relegation fight next against Empoli next Saturday.

Acquah’s Sampdoria however next travel to face a real test of their credentials against second-placed Roma on Monday 16 March. Follow @thedonplato
