Priestess In Police Grips

The 59-year-old woman who treated herself to a luxurious stay at some hotels in Obuasi and left without paying her bills totalling GH¢2,300 has been put behind bars by a circuit court in the gold city.

Apostle Faustina Gyamfi Yeboah, a self-acclaimed priestess, was jailed yesterday for two years in hard labour for her unpaid bills of GH¢1,200 at Golden Edeylona where she lodged for two weeks.

The court, presided over by Frank Aboagye Rockson, however, remanded the woman scammer into prison custody to reappear on March 21, 2015 for the hearing of the suit concerning her unpaid bill of GH¢1,100 at Eno Ntirewaa Hotel after she pleaded not guilty to that charge.

She had deceived the hotels’ staff that she was a topnotch priestess and succeeded in obtaining luxurious accommodations for her spiritual activities, having awarded herself the title of an apostle.

She was arrested after police burst into her room at Eno Ntirewaa Hotel at Asonkore, a suburb of Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, where she received people coming for spiritual consultation on their predicament.

The Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, Supt Antwi-Boasiako, said one of the woman’s unpaid bills at Golden Edeylona – where she first lodged and spent two weeks – included bottles of Guinness, beer and champagne that amounted to GH¢1,200.

‘Apostle’ Faustina Gyamfi Yeboah is alleged to have stayed at several hotels in the gold city and used the places for her spiritual activities and consultations after allegedly assuring managers of the hotels that the bills for her stay would be picked up by a patron of her spiritual activities.

”She lived like a queen,” said Managing Director of Eno Ntirewaa Hotel, Victor Osei, who disclosed that the woman swindler told his staff she was a senior apostle ready to do business with the hotel.

According to him, the police retrieved brooms, oil and some water-like substances from the room upon the 59- year-old’s arrest.

Mr Osei explained that the woman’s 13-day stay at his hotel racked up to GH¢1,100 but she only paid GH¢20 when he demanded payment.

Several revelations about her modus operandi came up when the news of her arrest went viral, with one of the hotels asserting that Faustina took off after her bill hit GH¢1,200.
