The Concerned Youth of Asante (CYA) has described the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as playing instrumental role in the nation‘s development.

The group has, therefore, said it would be unfair to any section of the society, to brand him as being a partisan leader.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by its President, Dr Nana Agyenim Boateng, Secretary, Mr Henry Adu Bofoh, and Communications Director Mr B.K. Boakye and issued by the group.

According to the group, there were reports in the media suggesting that the Asante King had allegedly been meddling in partisan politics.

Otumfuo, the group said, had worked with past governments and rendered selfless services to the nation.

“It is instructive to know at this point that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as a traditional leader, has dealt with the various Presidents of Ghana irrespective of [their] political colours”, it said.

In this regard, the group recalled that in 2002, former President J. A. Kufuor appointed him as the head of a committee of eminent chiefs to find a traditional solution to the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute in northern Ghana, which he accepted.

They also said Otumfuo’s association with President John Mahama had no partisan intentions but was geared towards the development of the country.

The group has, therefore, asked those peddling such allegations to put a stop to them as they were undignified.
