Sakumono (Tema), March 6, GNA – Mr Richard Fiadomor, 39, a lecturer at the Regional Maritime University, said he was still upbeat about his chances of winning the Sakumono Electoral Area seat in the Tema West constituency.
Mr Fiadomor, who was among four candidates contesting the Sakumono Electoral Area seat, said he still had plans to file for nomination when the process restarts since service to his community remained his paramount interest.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) days after the Supreme Court ordered the suspension of the District Level Election, he said in his over two decades stay in the Sakumono community, he had identified some challenge affecting the community in its development drive.
He mentioned sanitation, education, recreation and health as development areas he wished to tackle if given the nod as the once clean Sakumono community had in recent times been engulfed in filth, contributing to some health challenges to residence.
Mr Fiadomor said his motivation to contest the assembly election was to serve his community, adding that sanitation remained his priority as he intended to work with Unit Committee Members and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to ensure cleaner environment in the area.
He said squatters had, over the years, taken up parts of the Sakumono Estates and this had contributed to the insanitary practices in the area.
These squatters, he added, were engaged in commercial activities and littered around without using waste bins provided by the Assembly, attributing such acts to indiscipline.
According to him, he would ensure that the Public Health Unit of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly became proactive in summoning such persons to pay fines to serve as deterrent to those who would not conform to the standards of the Estates.
‘I will ensure better management of waste in the area to reduce any health risk in the electoral area,’ he said.
In the area of security, Mr Fiadomor said there had been some security threats in the area due to non-functioning street lights in some parts of the community as some criminals had removed underground cables.
He said as a community there was the need for coexistence through social and recreational activities and he intends to solicit for funds to build volleyball and basket ball courts with quarterly tournaments to help develop the skills of the youth.
On education, he said he would set up an Education Endowment Fund for needy and brilliant children area to ensure that these pupils are able to further their education.
‘I intend to collaborate effectively with parents and head teachers to find out what their challenges are in terms of providing quality education’, he said.
