Head of Media, Brands and Communication for Charter House, George Quaye has described comments by Gospel musician, Anita Afriyie concerning the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) as disrespectful and careless.

Anita is reported to have slammed the organizers for organizing “a biased and bogus Accra-based” awards ceremony for failing to nominate her more than twice for this year’s awards with her producer/husband, Daniel Kwabena Osei Jnr threatening to withdraw from the awards if organizers fail to name his artiste in more than two categories within a two week ultimatum.

According to the musician, her song, ‘Adehye Mogya’ was popular to receive just two nominations.

Reacting to the threat on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch hosted by Abrantepa, George Quaye called the bluff of the artiste and her producer, daring them to withdraw if they wish.

“I heard on a network that Anita Afriyie and her manager say they give us two weeks to name her in other categories or they will withdraw. Two weeks is far. They should withdraw now. It’s optional”.

Adding, “There is nothing as disrespectful and dishonourable like this, especially coming from a gospel artiste. You look at the faces of competent people in our industry like Amandzeba, Diana Hopeson, Zapp Mallet, OkerekuMantey and tell them they don’t know what they are about and say you will withdraw if they don’t add you to other categories… withdraw now. It is unfair and totally disrespectful. I thought it was a very very careless talk and an insult on the entire board of VGMA. They can withdraw. We will not begrudge them. Next year if they release and it’s good, we will still nominate them”.

Anita Afriyie was nominated in the Gospel Artiste of the Year and Gospel Song of the Year categories.
