APC Senatorial Candidate In Jigawa Refuses To Sign Peace Pact

2015-election

A senatorial candidate contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, Alhaji Ubale Shittu, who refused to sign a peace accord ahead of the forthcoming elections, has explained why he refused at the state police command, yesterday.

Shitu, a former deputy governor in the state, who was the only APC candidate at the peace meeting that refused to accent his signature, said his refusal was for security reasons.

He said he had consulted his lawyers and had been advised not to signe any agreement because nobody has power to control large number of supporters during and even after the elections.

Two other senatorial candidates of the APC, Sabo Nakudu and Alhaji Abdullahi Ojo did not show up for the peace signing ceremony. Shitu, however, said that his decision not to sign the peace accord was personal and not that of the party.

Three senatorial flag bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Abdulmumini Zareku, Jigawa Central, Senator Danladi Sankara, Jigawa North, and Alhaji Adamu Sarawa, attended and signed the peace pact documents.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Tilli reportedly tried his best to ensure that Shitu signed the peace pact, but all the efforts by the police boss was resisted.
