Change of order: Boakye Yiadom’s Atalanta sack coach

There could be a new lease of life for Ghana’s Richmond Boakye Yiadom after his club, Atalanta sacked Coach Stefano Colantuono, who will be replaced by former Napoli and Lazio Coach Edy Reja.

Boakye is on loan from Juventus with both clubs maintaining a 50% stake each in the player but has struggled to win the confidence of the now dismissed Colantuono, the 22 year old Ghanaian striker has featured in just 17 of Atalanta’s 25 Serie A games, 11 of them off the substitute’s bench.

Boakye’s side are currently 17th in the Italian top flight, only three points above the Serie A relegation zone having won just five of their 25 league games, suffering 12 defeats.

Sunday’s 1-2 home defeat to Sampdoria was their 4th straight loss which left Atalanta chiefs no choice than to pull the trigger on Colantuono, the club made a statement on their website Wednesday morning to announce the managerial change.

‘Atalanta B.C. communicate that they have dismissed Coach Stefano Colantuono, who will be replaced by Mr Edy Reja,’ reads the statement.

‘The club expresses profound admiration and gratitude to Mr Colantuono on account of the qualified work that he did with us for five years.’

New helmsman, Edy Reja jumps straight into the fray as he begins a rescue mission at rock bottom and brankruptcy threatened Parma on Sunday, Boakye of course hoping to earn a first Serie A start of 2015. Follow @thedonplato >
