Fake Job Recruiting Officer Busted

THE PRAMPRAM police are holding a man who allegedly swindled several people under the pretext of recruiting them into a construction firm in Accra.

Iddrisu Mohammed Zakaria, 32-year-old unemployed, was arrested after some of his victims had reported the matter to the police.

Four persons were said to have lodged complaints of scam against the  suspect when he was initially arrested, but several persons are now coming out with similar complaints against the suspect as the police have prepared three different dockets with not less than four victims on each for the suspect to appear before court after investigations.

A search conducted in his abode led to the discovery of three ID cards –  all with his passport photograph – but bearing different names such as Mohammed Iddrisu Zakaria, Iddrisu Mohammed and Iddrisu Zakaria.

He has been charged with defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131 of Act 29/60.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdulai Kamagate, Crime Officer of the Prampram District Police Headquarters, confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, explaining that somewhere last year, the suspect met his first victim to whom he posed as a recruitment officer for a construction firm in Accra, positing that vacancies still existed.

The victim, who was unemployed then, expressed interest in the said job and was made to pay GH¢4,000 for immediate employment with better conditions attached.

This amount he noted, was paid into MTN mobile money account registered in the name of Iddrisu Zakaria.

Later, the suspect met three other victims and used the same method and they also expressed interest. They are said to have paid GH¢500 each into the same mobile money account, all amounting to GH¢5,500.

Suspect thereafter assured the unsuspecting applicants of securing them jobs before December 2014 but nothing was heard from him, with all his mobile phones switched off, until it later dawned on them (victims) that they had been duped.

A formal report was made to the police at Prampram and the suspect was arrested at his hideout. He admitted during police interrogation and in his caution statement that he took the said monies from the victims.

Meanwhile, the police have warned members of the public seeking recruitment into the security services not to rely on middlemen.
