Drama unfolded at Assinย Dompim in the Assin Centralย Municipality of the Central Regionย at the weekend when chiefs in theย area trooped to the house of theย Member of Parliament (MP),ย Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to pleadย with him to contest the 2016 parliamentaryย election.

According to the chiefs, the MPย has been supporting the people of theย area and did not see why he has toย vacate the seat at a time the countryย is in serious crisis. They wanted aย confirmation to rumours that theย Assin Central MP was not going toย contest the 2016 polls.

Some of the chiefs had no otherย option than to shed tears immediatelyย the MP said he was not going toย contest again.

The spokesperson for the chiefs,ย Nana Kutin Amoah III, who is theย Benkumhene of Effutuakwa Traditionalย Area, told the MP to rescind hisย decision immediately.

Nana Amoah mentioned some ofย the projects which had been initiatedย during the MP’s tenure of office andย appealed to him to contest again toย complete all his unfinished projects.

He noted that plans were underwayย for the chiefs to construct a nursingย training college in the area,ย adding the MP had been very instrumentalย in that the project comes toย fruition and should therefore ensureย its completion before he backs out ofย politics.

Mr Agyapong hinted thatย although he had planned to quit politics,ย he would contest again, becauseย of the respect he has for chiefs andย the love they have shown to him.

‘I will contest the seat again forย the sake of you but please don’t tellย me to contest again in 2020 since Iย have to allow others to come andย contribute their quota towards theย development of the area,’ he underscored.

He donated an amount ofย GHยข10,000 to the chiefs in support ofย the nursing training college andย promised to provide 40 acres of landย for its construction.

He urged the chiefs to sign anย agreement with the government toย allocate 30% of the admissions intoย the nursing training college to theย people of the area after its completion.

‘It is very sad when I see thatย people from Assin are not gettingย admission into our training collegeย and the Immigration Training School,ย even though the school is on ourย land,’ he bemoaned.
