Accra Hearts of Oak’s Team Manager, Nii Sabbah Quaye has accused the former assistant coach of the club Stephen Abguri for being the cause of the club’s woes in recent times.
According to Sabbah Quaye, Mr. Abugri was vigorously undermining the work of the current head coach, Herbert Addo.
‘Definitely! It is no one else who was undermining the coach but Abugri. He was not helping the head coach. Since I started this job, I have never seen any assistant coach who told players that as for me, I want you to play but it is the coach who doesn’t want you to play. So the players started seeing the head coach (Herbert Addo) as a ‘god’,’ Quaye said.
He also accused the former assistant coach of unprofessionalism and creating disunity amongst the playing body of the team. ‘Can you image a coach [assistant] supervising a training session and leaving the pitch to make a phone call for about ten minutes? This is what he did,’ he told Accra based Happy FM.
Mr. Quaye further mentioned that this and other acts led to the reassignment of the assistant.
Last week it was reported in the local media that the former Okwawu United trainer, Stephen Abugri had a brawl with Sabbah Quaye at the club’s training ground but the vociferous team manager rubbished those reports.
“I never fought with Abugri. I’m surprised this is even out there in the media. Abugri’s reshuffle is an administrative change. The players were grumbling when I came back from national assignment. There were so many things that I can’t even say in public. Even before I left, I saw a power struggle between the assistant coaches,’ Mr. Quaye added.
Stephen Abugri was left out in Hearts of Oak trip to Benin. He has now been assigned to the club’s Youth team while, Dauda Lutterodt takes his position as the assistant of the senior side.
