James Quarshie Idun EC Lawyer

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Alhaji Halidu Haruna has mocked Electoral Commission (EC) Lawyer, James Quarshie-Idun for being so weak and losing cases indiscriminately.

Halidu Haruna said on Asempa FM’s Kukurantumi’s Programme Saturday that he has wondered why the ‘old man’ would continue to serve as the lead lawyer for the EC.

According to him, the EC’s lapses are to be blamed on the aged-Lawyer who has failed to advise the commission on proper legal steps.

“Even me, who is not a Lawyer, if I had gone to court with the EC lawyer on this matter, I would have defeated him…I don’t simply understand…I certainly think Quarshie Idun did not help,” he said.

The Afari Gyan-led commission suffered another humiliation in its work when a seven-member Supreme Court panel with few days to organizing the District level elections was ordered to cancel the process and reopen nominations.

This was after a disqualified aspirant; Benjamin Eyi Mensah dragged the Commission to court for disqualifying him.

After suffering the defeat, various Assemblymen have pointed accusing fingers at the EC for failing to do due diligence in its duties.

And the blame, Alhaji Halidu Haruna said must be laid at the doorsteps of Lawyer Quarshie Idun who according to him failed to be proactive.

“The legal branch did not help the EC…this is basic for the EC to know the law must mature after 21 days…,” he said.

He argued that the EC Lawyer has by losing the case committed the tragedy to the ‘highest order’ and hence the EC must consider a possible replacement.
