The Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor has uncovered some destructive plans aimed at obstructing the ministry’s moves at ending Ghana’s energy crisis, which has persisted for almost three years.

Even though he did not disclose names or the said plans, the Minister emphasised that there were some elements within that were fighting ongoing efforts to end load shedding because of their parochial interest.

“I made the promise and I will deliver by the grace of God. I know there is going to be detraction. We are already aware, that some destructive moves are being planned but that will not discourage me,” the Minister said in an interview with Accra based radio station, Starr FM.

Government has embarked on numerous projects to try to end the long hours of power outages households and businesses are currently enduring.

One of such moves is the creation of the Ministry of Power late last year, which was carved out of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and elevated to cabinet level to displace the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing.

As part of its plans, the Ministry has estimated that emergency plans would be rolled out in months to bring relief to the system whilst the more permanent plans were worked on to resolve the electricity supply deficit. There are also plans to bring in power barges.

“Hold me to my word that by the end of this year, load shedding will not be over but we’ll ensure that load shedding will not reoccur as it happened in the past,” Dr Donkor reiterated.

Already, Dr Donkor who is a Member of Parliament for Pru East in the Brong Ahafo Region and was appointed late last year for the new Power Ministry has vowed to resign if he was unable to solve the problem by end of 2015.

President Mahama in his state of the nation address on Thursday made his intentions of holding the Minister accountable to his public declaration known.

But in a reaction to the President’s hint in the interview with Starr FM, Dr Donkor said saboteurs have already started working against him but will not disclose the identities of the said saboteurs.

“Watch the space when they come out you will know where they are coming from,” he said
