JAILED: Fabio Cannavaro sentenced to 10 months in prison

Former Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro has been given a 10 month jail sentence for entering a property seized by tax authorities.

The 41-year-old, who played for Parma, Internazionale, Juventus and Real Madrid, and captained Italy to their 2006 World Cup triumph, has been under investigation for tax evasion. In October, authorities in Naples seized almost €1m of goods linked to Cannavaro and his wife.

However, the Guangzhou Evergrande Coach has appealed the ruling, meaning that the sentence is suspended pending an investigation.

Prosecutor Luigi Canavale stated that the World Cup winner, his brother Paolo, who plays for Sassuolo, and the latter’s wife Daniela Arenoso entered the villa, and sentenced all three to custodial sentences.
