Ghana Music Awards Takes Off Friday

Theresa Ayoade, Executive Director, Charterhouse.
There is a growing anxiety and suspense among stakeholders of Ghana’s music industry as Charterhouse, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards, announces the nominees for this year’s event on Friday.

This year’s edition would be the 16 th and would be held under the theme, ‘Ignition By Passion’.

Organisers say the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Board has completed theย  collating, scrutinising and short-listing of the thousands of entries it received when nominations were opened and the final list would be made public this Friday evening at the La-Palm Royal Beach hotel during a strictly-by-invitation event.

The Board had the tortuous task of reviewing hundreds of entries, categorising and short-listing them into the various categories to be awarded. After many hours of board deliberations and numerous sittings, the 2015 VGMA Board has completed its work and ready to make public the nominees list for this year’s event.

Friday’s event would beย  a preview of what to expect at the main event in terms of organisation and it will be attended by a tall list of A-List guestsย  who willย  comprise theย  crรƒยจme de laย  crรƒยจme in theย  entertainment industry,ย  artistes and some hundred fans of VGMA selected from various VGMA social media activation.

This year’s event has seen some major changes alreadyโ€”the inclusion of a Reggae/ Dancehall Artiste of theย  yearย  andย  theย  re-definitionย  ofย  theย  New Artisteย  ofย  theย  year asย  wellย  asย  Musicย  Videoย  Directing categories. Organisers maintain that these changes have been made based on a general review of the scheme consistent with its mantra of keeping the scheme fresh and in synch with current trends.

According to the organisers, Charterhouse, this year’s launch is a combined launch and Nominees Party; and if previous launches are anything to go by, one can expect a classy red carpet event which will precede the actual programme.

The event is expected to be one full of glitz and glamour. The road to the most anticipated event on the GH entertainment calendar would be cleared in a few days. We may not know who will get cut or who will be nominated for what at this moment but one thing is certain: the controversy over who should have been nominated and who shouldn’t have been will begin soon after the nominees’ list is released.

The 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is a Charterhouse Ghana event, sponsored by Vodafone Ghana and supported by STAR and GHOne TV .
