The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region says it is ready for Wednesday’s “Yabre” demonstration.

The protest, which is expected to be a replica of the “won gbo” demonstration held in Accra a week ago, is to draw government’s attention to the current energy crisis and general economic hardship in the country.

Speaking in an earlier interview with Citi News, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Samuel Payne said everything is set for the protest.

“We’ve spoken with all our constituencies, everybody who is supposed to be part of it, all the logistics are in place. We’ve spoken with the Police, we’ve finished with them,” he said.

Mr Payne noted that they will begin the demonstration at the State boys’ park near the Suame roundabout and they will go through the Bantama High Street and Kejetia, as well as other principal streets in the region and later end at the Jubilee Park.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the NPP in a statement endorsed the demonstration.

A press statement signed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong noted that, “the NPP wishes to announce to the entirety of Ghanaians that it endorses the ‘Yabr3 Demo’ which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday February 25, 2015.”

The party’s General Secretary urged members of the party, civil society and artisanal groups to join the demonstration since the “economic gains made in our country have been eroded over the past 6 years of the NDC rule.”

He said Ghanaians, “continue to suffer unprecedented economic hardship coupled with an unending power crisis.”

In a related development, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region were supposed to stage a demonstration exercise in the Ashanti Region, on February 24 aimed at thanking President Mahama for initiating unprecedented projects in the region but later called it off citing security reasons.
