Hearts of Oak beat Aduana Stars 3-2 on match day 9 of the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier League on Wednesday at the Accra sports stadium. The win lifted the Phobians from the relegation zone.
Both teams never gave each other the chance to settle with a lot of exchanges in the middle of the pitch. Aduana Stars looked much comfortable on the ball, as they started pushing Hearts of Oak to their own half.
In the 7th minute mark the away side nearly fetched the opener after Godfred Saka was tread through on goal by Elvis Opoku but his shot fists the fingers of Soulama Abdoulaye for a corner-kick.
The Phobians struggled to open Aduana Stars defense. The Dorma based club looked powerful at the back by keeping Hearts of Oak striking pair of Landry Bousson and Gilbert Fiamenyo at bay. On the half hour mark the home side for the first time broke Aduana Stars defense with a combination of square passes but Kofi Abanga rocket strike went over the bar.
Hearts of Oak kept pushing their opponent until in the 35th minute Gilbert Fiamenyo raced pass two Aduana Stars defenders to lay a low pass to Landry Bousson who neatly tap the ball into the blind side of Aduana’s goaliee Razak Issah for the opener to set the stadium ablaze.
Five minutes later Aduana Stars came close to equalizing after Elvis Opoku’s shot stung the palm of Soulama Abdoulaye. The Phobians were quick to respond again but their effort was prevent by the Aduana defense.
From recess, Aduana Stars started the game as the rejuvenated side with numerous incursions into the Hearts of Oak half but the away side shot themselves in the foot in the 50th minute mark after Emmanuel Akuoko impeded Issac Mensah on the edge of their penalty box, Isaac Oduro picked his spot very well and burned the ball pass Aduana Stars wall for the second goal.
After the Phobians doubled their lead, they sat back and Aduana Stars took the game to them with James Abban who came in for Elvis Opoku out ran Issah Musah as the tall lanky Hearts of Oak defender trailing legs brought down the former Liberty and Hearts of Oak striker in the 61st minute, the referee pointed to the spot and Godfred Saka beat Soualama Abdoulaye to get his side in the game.
Gilbert Fiamenyo in the 71st mark registered the 3rd goal for the Phobians after a neat curler to the far post to beat Razak Issah in post for the Dormaa based club.
The away side put Hearts of Oak under intense pressure as Herbert Addo’s side gave away another goal after Godfred Saka’s well taken corner-kick was headed home by substitute Richard Adai in the 83rd minute.
It was a nervy moment for the Phobians as Aduana Stars grew in confidence searching for the equalizer but the away side blew their chances.
The game was brought to an end as the Phobians ended their 3 match winless streak.
