Punto morto: Acquah’s Sampdoria held by Genoa in derby

Afriyie Acquah is still chasing a first victory in Sampdoria colours following a stalemate against neighbours, Genoa in the derby della Laterna on Tuesday afternoon.

The Italian Serie A match day 24 tie was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was rained off and had to be postponed to today because of a water soaked pitch.

Acquah who suffered defeat on his Sampdoria bow last week at Chievo Verona was in buoyant mood ahead of the game, even dreaming of a first goal for his new club but it was not to be as the game ended 1-1 at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

Only two minutes separated the two goals with Iago Falke Silva putting Genoa ahead on 17 minutes but whcih was promptly cancelled by Eder in the 19th minute as the derby yielded no winner

Both have 36 points after 24 games, Genoa are 6th, Sampdoria are seven with both now three points behind Fiorentina who occupy the 5th and Italy’s last automatic European qualification position.

Acquah may still be chasing a win with Sampdoria but his agent, Oliver Arthur has hailed the progress the player has made since arriving after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I’m happy at his progress. Two matches, all played 90 minutes and in all played above average. That’s evidence that he has settled quickly, he already feels part of the team,” Agent Arthur told Allsports.com.gh exclusively.

“Even though they did not win today’s game, it was okay for him, he played well. He is not desperate for a win, he just came and he’s been contributing very well,” added Oliver Arthur who will stay on in Italy to watch Acquah and Sampdoria take on another of his players, Richmond Boakye Yiadom’s Atalanta in a Serie A game on Sunday.
