The management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has given the All Progressive Congress (APC) 72 hours to retract its statement accusing the agency of campaign of calumny against APC Presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari or face legal action.

NIMASA’s Director General, Patrick Akpobolokemi, who spoke to journalists, yesterday, accused the APC of mischief.

“The attempts by APC to discredit the giant strides of President Goodluck Jonathan in NIMASA through mischievous representations and blatant lies by the APC will be fought against.

“It must be echoed for record purposes that NIMASA is not a political party.

“We are a responsible government agency trying our best to fulfil the mandate setting us up as an organisation.

“We will not therefore be dragged into malicious politicking by our accusers neither would we be intimidated into not parading our achievements nor shy away from our core responsibilities.

“The APC has mounted relentless attack and vicious propaganda all in the name of politics against several government agencies, including NNPC, Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services and the latest victim is now NIMASA.

“Prominent among the falsehood perpetrated by the APC against NIMASA is the allegation that NIMASA contracted the country’s maritime security to a private firm owned by Tompolo.

“I state here, unequivocally that these allegations are false as NIMASA neither entered into any such security contract with any private company nor with Tompolo,” Akpobolokemi said.
