Asamoah Gyan’s music partner and friend, Castro is in the news again, over seven months since the hiplife artiste’s sudden disappearance at a weekend picnic on the waters of Ada in the Greater Accra Region with lady friend, Janet Bandu.
The Police have yet to find a clue to the whereabouts of the missing duo, however, a new single from the artiste has been released, which features musician and sound engineer, Appietus entitled ‘Ma men do wo’ (let me love you).
In an interesting twist full of suspense, Castro, real name Theophilus Tagoe sings in the song that he is back again with Appietus; this time with more fire, urging the people of Ghana to brace up for more surprises.
The two had already worked on a collaboration titled ‘Kuntunumu’ before Castro’s disappearance.
‘Castro again oo, Appietus my man, we don come again oo, Ghana dey scatter, some people go run, fire dey come,’ are just some of the lyrics of the song, which is already beginning to enjoy serious airplay.
According to the renowned Appietus, the voice in the song was indeed Castro’s but said ‘it was recorded before he went missing.’
Castro, a multiple award winning musician and a weekend getaway party group led by Asamoah Gyan visited a beach resort in Ada in July last year but unfortunately went missing with one, Janet Bandu on July 6 when eyewitnesses said they last saw them as Castro drove a jet ski with Janet at his back headed towards the ocean.
They have never been seen since, amid rumours and accusations pointing at Gyan which resulted in endless skirmishes, including Gyan’s elder brother, Baffour getting arrested and arraigned before court for allegedly leading thugs to beat up a journalist who had asked Asamoah about Castro’s disappearance at a Black Stars media soiree in Kumasi.
‘Castro was a brother to me, I miss him very much, He is such a talented guy. He never writes his music, he just sings them. I miss him so much,’ Gyan said in an interview with Starr FM recently.
On whether he thinks Castro is dead or alive, Gyan responded: ‘I don’t know, it’s only God that knows but sometimes I sit down and ask myself…Where is he?’
Appietus says he is hopeful that Castro will be found ‘someday’. Follow @thedonplato
