The minister of youth and sports Mahama Ayariga says Ghana is favourite to win the bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
Ghana submitted a bid to host the tournament in 2017 after initial host Libya was hit by political crisis.
‘We have gone very far in our lobbying. If you were to ask me who the real contenders are, I would say Ghana. Other countries have made a strong case but clearly Ghana has made a strong case,’ Ayariga told Ultimate FM.
Egypt has abandoned the race to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations, handing a major boost to the chances of Ghana hosting the event.
This means that three nominees are still competing to host this event- Algeria, Ghana and Gabon.
Ghana faces stiff competition from six others – Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to take a decision on the host country in April this year.
