The Founding President and CEO of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has described as ‘poor analogy’ President Mahama’s mobile phone comment.
He said it is the responsibility of the president to encourage Ghanaians and plan on how to bring an end to the energy crisis rather than blaming the crisis on the usage of mobile phones.
It may be recalled that President John Dramani Mahama whilst addressing Ghanaians in the Gambia noted that, “Ghana’s population is 25 million, but statistics indicates that mobile phone lines in Ghana is over 27 million and these phones are charged every night, and this is one of the causes of the load-shedding.”
Though the Ministry of Communication in a statement issued by the sector Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has denied that the President blamed mobile phones for the current problem, Mr. Cudjoe, on Citi FM’s The Big Issue show on Saturday said “the president could have said something different instead of that statement.
“…because he is rather inciting Ghanaians and so he should come again and tell us something different because I see his comment as a poor analogy,” he stated.
On his part, a member of pressure group, Occupy Ghana, Sydney Casely-Hayford said “I feel very insulted to hear our president say such things; he shouldn’t have thought that mobile phone usage could be a reason for this unending dumsor.
“He should rather concentrate on how to get the problem solved because we are going through the poorest times of our lives” he stated.
