Lions 1-0 Hearts of Oak: Lions deepens Hearts of Oak woes

Kpando Heart of Lions on match day 8 of the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier League beat Hearts of Oak by a goal to nil at the Kpando Sports stadium on Sunday thanks to Osman Munataka 52nd minute strike.

Heart of Lions opened the early minutes of the game with a lot of intensive pressure on Heart of Oak but the Phobians defense looked much comfortable with the play pattern of the home side.

The Kpando based club in the 21st minute mark of the game nearly fetched the opener after Isaac Twum tees up Tanko Mohammed but the burly attacker hit a low shot but Soulama Abdoulaye was on guard to save the situation for the Phobians.

Hearts of Oak also initiated their first attack 2 minutes later after a swift combination of passes between Leonard Tawiah and speedster Paul Acquah but the end result from Gilbert Fiamenyo went over the bar. There was a quick response from Heart of Lions by hitting a long ball into the final third of  but the central pair of Inusah Musah and Ruben Gnagne swept those balls away.

The home side took control of the game from the 35th minute by firing from all angles with Issac Twum and Munataka Osman winning the midfield battle for Heart of Lions but they failed to put the ball at the back of the net as the Phobians kept their composure in the game to end the first half goalless.

In the second half it took Heart of Lions only 7 minutes to break the deadlock after Isaac Twum put Osman Munataka through on goal as he struck the ball to left corner of the post to beat Soulama Abdoulaye. Herbert Addo’s men failed to answer to Heart of Lions goal as they struggled to put their passes together.

The midfield battle which was dominated by Heart of Lions pair of Issac Twum and Osman Muntaka gave the Phobians something to worry about as the likes of Leonard Tawiah and Richard Yamoah were not at their best.

The home side adapted to the defensive strategy as the Phobians took control of the game with a lot of surging runs and incisive passes but Selasi Adjei who was leading Heart of Oak attack failed to latch on to a through pass by Richard Yamoah. In the closing stages of the game the away side kept the heat on Heart of Lions but on two occasions substitute Landry Bousson who came in for Gilbert Fiamenyo had his shot parried away by Mozart Adjetey in post for the home side, a minute later Selasi Adjei’s 23 yards strike clutched the gloves of Mozart Adjetey.

With time not on the side of Heart of Oak, the home side kept the ball to themselves as their aim was to while away time; which worked to perfection as the man in the middle Desmond Abbey whistled for the end of the game with Heart of Lions picking the 3 maximum points.
