Ghanaian Players Abroad: Rahman gets full game; Boateng, Atsu, Schlupp make appearances


Ghanaian defender John Boye was an unlikely source of a goal for his Turkish club Kayseri Erciyesspor on Friday night as they entertained Konyaspor at home in the Turkey Super Lig.

John Boye opened the scoring for Kayseri Erciyesspor in the 19 minute after Necati Ates missed a penalty for the home side two minutes into the game.

Royston Drenthe added a second before Bjoern Vleminckx scored from the penalty spot to give John Boye and his side a 3-0 home victory with all goals coming in the first half.

Albert Adomah played the full game for his Middlesbrough side in the game against Leeds United in the English Championship.

Middlesbrough lost at home by a single goal to nil against Leeds. Alex Mowatt scored the goal for away side Leeds United.

Kwesi Appiah did not make the match day squad for the game between his Crystal Palace side and Arsenal in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Crystal Palace lost by two goals to one at home to Arsenal.

Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien both missed AC Milan’s home game in the Italian Serie A against Cesena.

Milan won the game by two goals to nil with Giacomo Bonaventura and Giampaolo Pazzini scoring the goals in each half of the game.

In the German Bundesliga on Saturday, Abdul Baba Rahman played the full game for his Augsburg club as they drew 2-2 at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Rahman and his Augsburg side had to be saved by heroics from their man in the post as goalkeeper Marwin Hitz scored a late equalizer to put the game at 2-2 denying away side Bayern Leverkusen all three points.

Kevin-Prince Boateng made a 70 minute appearance for Schalke 04 in their home game against Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga.

The Ghanaian and his Schalke side were denied all three points by a very late goal form Werder Bremen’s Sebastian Proedl to put the game at 1-1 after Max Meyer put Roberto Di Matteo’s side 1-0 up earlier.

Ghana internationals Christian Atsu and Jeffrey Schlupp faced each other in the English Premier League on Sunday as Everton took on Leicester City at home.

Atsu and Schlupp however spent only seven minutes together on the football field as the Everton man made a 55 minute substitute appearance while the Leicester City man was replaced in the 62 minute after starting the game.

Everton and Leicester City shared the spoils in a four-goal second half thriller after both side drew blank in the first half.

Steven Naismith scored the opener in the 57 minute for home side Everton with David Nugent equalizing six minutes later. Esteban Cambiaso scored to put away side Leicester City 2-1 ahead but a late own goal from Mathew Upson who was under pressure by Romelu Lukaku after some good work a telling cross into the box from Christian Atsu caused problems for the defending team saw Everton deny Leicester City of all three points.

Neither Christian Atsu nor Jeffrey Sclupp was booked in the game between Everton and Leicester City.

Christian Atsu was voted the Everton man of the match in the game despite coming on as a substitute.

Derek Boateng did not play a part for his Eibar side in the Spanish La Liga game against Villarreal on Sunday. Eibar lost 1-0 away from home with Dario Vietto scoring for home side Villarreal.

Frank Acheampong made a 70th minute appearance in the Belgium Pro League for his Anderlecht side. Anderlecht travelled to play Genk where they won by a single goal to nil. Steven Defour scored the goal for Anderlecht in the 1-0 win.

The French Ligue 1 game between Jonathan Mensah’s Evian Thonon Gaillard and Jordan Ayew’s FC Lorient was postponed. Follow @kboakye92
