Ghanaian international Mubarak Wakaso may feature in a left-back role for Celtic in the future, his manager has suggested.
The winger has yet to start a game for the Hoops after returning from the AFCON tournament where he was a key figure in Ghana’s run to the final against the Ivory Coast.
On loan from Rubin Kazan, the 24-year old is desperate to make a positive impact on Celtic in the next few months in order to secure a permanent deal; and his head coach may have signalled to him that a full back role could be in order.
In his pre-match press conference prior to Celtic’s game against Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League, Ronny Deila was quoted as saying: “Wakaso is a good winger to defend for us along with Henderson and he can also play left full-back.”
Wakaso’s versatility is a well-known attribute of his; and it will be remembered he starred in a central midfield role for Ghana at the AFCON, serving as the main creative hub of the side.
A shift to fullback however may signal the beginning of the end of his Celtic career, as Deila looks to other options to lead his attack.
Wakaso has netted a solitary goal in his time at Celtic Park, featuring in just 10 games in all competitions
