Comfort Annor Gospel

She spoke in a voice so shrill and unrecognizable that one might assume it was that of a toddler. Her voice sounded quite drained and one had to strain the ear before she can be heard.

And according to accounts – from people who recently paid her a visit – she now spots a careworn expression on her face and appears pallid and very haggard.

Yet, a couple of years ago, her soothing unique voice, alternating between a Mezzo-Soprano and a Contralto, dazzled audiences nationwide.

With her alluring charm and rich soulful singing style, Comfort Annor was simply irresistible and a toast of gospel enthusiasts.

At the height of her ministry, she was one of the strongest and most respected gospel divas in the country. But the “Asaase Dah) Gyan” and “W’awo Me )ba” crooner now lies in a very critical state, wrestling with a very debilitating medical condition.

Indeed, ardent listeners of Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”, on Saturday, February 14, could not hold back their tears as the once gracious gospel diva struggled to even voice out her words in an emotional interview with Akwasi Aboagye.

Madam Comfort Annor, who spoke from her sick bed, shared a heart-rending tale of her present predicament; having almost lost her liver and one of her kidneys. She revealed that she spent virtually all she had on her monetary-wise on hospital bills and medication in America, and been to all the well-known hospitals in the country, before doctors could detect what was really wrong with her. She narrated that she was only told a few days ago by doctors that her liver and one of her kidneys have become enlarged and has to undergo a number of surgeries to correct the defect but lacks the necessary funds.

“I have been very sick since October 2014, I have been to virtually every place seeking a solution to this disease…,I feel severe pains in my stomach, I can’t eat and I can’t sleep at night. I have spent all my money (seeking treatment) but I am still not getting better…

“I can’t even speak well, this how I talk now. I am very unwell… I have taken so many medications but there has still not been any improvement. I feel acute pains in my tummy… and if you come and see my condition this afternoon you will pity me,” she said in a rather halting soft and teary voice.

Recounting how it all started, Mavis Annor, daughter of the renowned gospel musician, who was by her poor ailing mum’s bedside, told Peace FM’s Akwasi Aboagye that her mother went on a visit to the United States of America sometime last year, but shortly afterwards, a family friend called to inform them in Ghana that Comfort Annor was seriously sick and had even been admitted at a hospital.

“…but the doctors could not diagnose what exactly was wrong with her,” Mavis added.

According to Mavis, a few days after they received the news, her mother was flown back to Ghana but her condition keeps deteriorating daily.

“My mom has been taken to all the major hospitals in the country but they have still not found a cure,” Mavis said.

At time of the interview, Madam Comfort Annor had been taken to a prayer camp in Kumasi to seek God’s intervention and has been there for about a week now.

Asked what message she has for Ghanaians, Madam Comfort Annor said “All I want to say is people should come to my aid financially and pray to God to heal me or I might die and leave this world”, she sorrowfully said.

Asked how well-wishers and loved ones can offer support to save her mum’s life, Mavis said “they can contact Madam Annor on 0243745396, and send mobile money through that same number”.

“…they can also contribute to help save her life by depositing money into this account number: 2081120005046; Ghana Commercial Bank, Asamankese Branch.”

Comfort Annor is known for such big hits like: “Abraham Sarah”, “Mewo Agyapade3”, “Hena Na W’aye” among others.
