On February 19, 2015, the Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman and the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Gene A. Cretz, ,inaugurated a newly-furnished two-story Municipal Directorate of Education Office complex for the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipality at Nungua in Accra.
This structure will provide adequate office space to support and motivate school administrators who oversee and ensure quality basic education for Ghanaian children. It consists of 13 office rooms, one conference hall, four washrooms, one kitchenette, and a store room.
The Ledzokuku Municipal Education Office is one of the 15 new district education offices the U.S. Government is funding through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.
The American people, through USAID, have invested approximately $19.7 million in building and furnishing the 15 new education office complexes, along with 49 junior high schools, 50 kindergartens, and 45 toilet facilities in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service in 34 districts across all the ten regions of Ghana. The 15 new district education offices and schools will accommodate a total of approximately 500 education office staff and over 7,000 schoolchildren.
These new education offices were built through close cooperation between USAID and the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and the District Assemblies through the Funds and Procurement Management Unit (FPMU) of the Ministry of Education. The Government of Ghana contributed a third of the cost of the design, management and supervision of the projects and provided the land for the construction.
