A Phoenix man said he bought a watch at the rate of $6 at a Goodwill thrift ship, but the watch turned out be a rare 1959 timepiece that he was able to sell for $35,000. Scoop reports:
Zach Norris said he was looking for a pull cart for his golf bag at the Goodwill store on 43rd Avenue in Phoenix when he recognized a $5.99 watch as a rare 1959 Jaeger-LeCoultre diving watch. “Sometimes they just miss it, they don’t know,” Norris told KTVK-TV of Goodwill employees. “It’s not a very fancy-looking piece. You have to know what it is.”
He said only about 900 of the watches were produced. Norris said he was able to sell the watch for $35,000 on website Hodinkee.com and the buyer even threw in a $4,000 Mega Speed Master watch.
Norris said some of the money will be donated back to Goodwill, and he and his fiancée have plans for the rest. “We are planning a wedding,” he said. “We’ve been planning a wedding for a while, but now that we have the extra funds we’re going to go ahead and start taking care of everything. We’re excited.”
