Kwabena Appiah settling into Wellington Phoenix role

New Phoenix signing Kwabena Appiah is settling into life in Wellington, with the talented winger ready for a run with the reserves this weekend.

The 22-year-old joined the club until the end of the 2015/16 season from Western Sydney Wanderers and was attracted to the Phoenix’s playing style.

โ€œI like the playing style and it’s a great bunch of boys with a tight community,โ€ said Appiah, who describes himself as an attacking player who loves to showboat.

โ€œWhat Ernie Merrick’s doing here is a fantastic job and it’s something I want to be part of.โ€

Merrick said he wouldn’t be including Appiah in this weekend’s squad.

โ€œHe will probably have a run with the reserves for half-a-game on Saturday,โ€ said Merrick.

โ€œWe’re very happy with him, as you see he has tremendous pace, he cuts inside, cuts outside, good dribble and good one-on-one.

โ€œI think at this time of the year, to have someone fresh is just such a good thing.โ€
