Government committed to development – DCE

Twumasikrom (B/A), Feb.19, GNA – Madam Agnes Kusi, the Sunyani West District Chief Executive (DCE), has reiterated government’s commitment to the socio- economic development of the country.

She noted that government would leave no stone unturned to improve the living standards of the people, especially those in the rural areas.

Madam Kusi said this in an address to the chiefs and people of Twumasikrom, a farming community in the District during a tour to some selected communities in the District on Wednesday.

The tour was to enable the DCE to interact with the people and identify their socio-economic development challenges to enable the District Assembly to address them accordingly.

Madam Kusi advised the community to protect their farms against bush fires and avoid bush burning at this time, saying that ‘the communities are the food basket of the country hence the need to protect their farms’.

On education the DCE advised them to support teachers posted to the community as a means of promoting effective teaching and learning.

Mr Ismael Kumi, the spokesperson for the Community enumerated some of their challenges as lack of potable water, electricity and teachers bungalow for teachers posted to the place.

At Aduonya, another farming community, the residents complained that bats had taken over the local Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound, and that had forced the Community Health Nurse in charge to vacate the place.

They said that had led to their inability to access health care, which posed great danger to children and pregnant women in the community, adding that teachers posted to the community also refused to stay due to lack of electricity and potable water.

Responding to their concerns, Madam Kusi noted that electricity was key to the development of every area, and therefore assured that the community would be hooked unto the national grid through the Rural Electrification Project initiated by the government.
