Unapproved GHC145,600 Sitting Allowance Exposed At Energy Commission

The latest Auditor General’s report presented to Parliament Tuesday revealed that the Energy Commission paid its board members a total of GHC145,600 sitting and monthly allowance without approval of the finance ministry.

The report which was presented to the House by the Auditor General, Richard Quartey, said the practice is in breach of the regular finance procedures allowed in good governance.

“Members of the Board of the Commission during the period under review were paid sitting and monthly allowances amounting to GHC145, 600.

“We, however, noted that, the payment of these allowances was not supported by any approval from the minister of finance thereby violating the Act (ACT 821),” the report revealed.

The auditor general therefore advised the Commission to always endeavor to seek approval from its ministry before disbursing any kind of allowances to its board members.
