Tigo Ghana Limited, a leading telecom company, has donated assorted items to the Weija Leprosarium as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The items included foodstuff, toiletries and Tigo’s souvenirs worth about GHC5000.

Presenting the items on Friday at the Leprosarium, Deborah Tayo Akakpo, Manager of CSR at Tigo Ghana, said the donation was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the inmates during Valentine’s Day celebration.

‘The main purpose for organizing this programme is to remember our love ones and share our love with them on Valentine’s Day,’ Ms. Tayo Akakpo stated.

She appealed to other corporate bodies and influential persons within the Ghanaian society to shun the habit of not helping the poor and needy in society.

According to her, such selfish attitude towards the poor was ungodly and bad.

‘Drop that YAM and for that matter drop that behaviour,’ she said.

Meanwhile, Tigo extended its benevolence to the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region, and Dzorwulu Special School in Accra to make the 2015 Valentine’s Day a memorable one for the underprivileged.

The short but colorful donation ceremony was climaxed with a special entertainment and laughter session which featured ace Ghanaian comedian, Derrick Kwabena Boney aka DKB.

On his part, George Quansah, caretaker of the Leprosarium, who received the donation, thanked Tigo profusely and urged other corporate institutions to follow suit.
