Lordina Calls for quality healthcare delivery

Mrs Lordina Mahama, the First Lady said she recognizes the importance of health to the social and economic well being of the people of Ghana as they contributes significantly towards the health needs of the people.

She noted that the local economy could not grow if the people are not healthy and that it was critical that health facilities that serve both local the people as well as central business districts must be assisted to provide quality healthcare.

Mrs Mahama made the remarks when she presented medical items to the Ussher Clinic in the Asheidu keteke Sub-Metro in the Odododiodio Constituency and the Mamprobi Polyclinic in the Ablekuma South Metro of the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

She said the presentation is aimed at supporting Government efforts to attain its vision of universal health care.

Mrs Mahama said the government led by President John Dramani Mahama is increasing access to healthcare by expanding health facilities and retooling all regional and district hospitals and health centers and also building chip compounds across the country.

She said the citizenry as a major stakeholder has a major role to play in achieving quality healthcare for all and urged the citizenry to take up the sanitation of their environment in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases which will put pressure on our hospitals and health centers.

Mrs Mahama said the outbreak of the cholera last year which led to the lost of over 100 lives was unacceptable and that this requires the citizenry to maintain a clean surrounding and a decent level of hygiene.

She thanked MedShare of the United States of America for making it possible for the Lordina Foundation to donate this equipment and supplies to the health facilities.

Mr Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said Government is committed to improving the health status of the citizenry to beef up the human resource of the country to ensure development.

He said Mrs Mahama is the first First Lady to champion the cause of maternal and public health to prevent diseases and unnecessary death.

Mr Fritz Baffour, MP for Ablekuma South expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the gesture and appealed to other organisations to support the country’s health facilities to provide quality healthcare.

Dr Stella Gyamfi, Specialist in-charge of the Ussher Clinic said the hospital serves over 120,000 people who are mostly fishermen and women and the residents from the popular Sodom and Gomorra. She thanked the First Lady for the gesture.
