Bright Addae’s importance to Ascoli in Italy’s third tier league is more than evident now following the Lega Pro Group B leaders’ 3-match winning run came to a grinding halt in the absence of the versatile Ghanaian player.
Addae was absent for Ascoli in their away game at Prato on Sunday following suspension for his red card in the previous game, a 2-1 victory against SPAL on February 8.
So much was the absence felt that Ascoli crashed to a comprehensive 3-1 defeat at struggling Prato who moved out of the relegation zone with what was their first win in five league games.
Ascoli who are chasing automatic qualification to Serie B, however still occupy first place in Pro Lega Group B, albeit only on goal difference after 2nd placed Terramo beat Santarcangelo 3-2 on Saturday to move level on 47 points at the top of the standings.
Also chasing top spot and automatic qualification are former Serie A hotshots, Reggiana who are three points back in 3rd place but with a game in hand as well as 4th placed Pisa who have 43 points also with a game in hand.
Only the winner of the group after 38 league matches earn straight qualification to Serie B with the the next two going into a play-offs for the remaining qualifying slots with other teams from groups A and C respectively.
Former Ghana U-20 World Cup winning defender, Addae has metamorphosed into a midfielder since arriving in Italy first on the books of Serie A side, Parma before now strutting it out on loan at Ascoli, amid adding goals to his repertoire.
The 22 year old has made 22 appearances (all starts) in Ascoli’s 24 games thus far this term including Sunday’s defeat he missed, topping it up with three goals to boot. Follow @thedonplato
