Accra Hearts of Oak Managing Director, Gerald Ankrah has called on supporters of the club to be patient with the coach and his players.
The Phobians start to the 2014 / 2015 First Capital Plus Bank premier league is nothing to write home about and it continued on Sunday when they hosted As Police of Benin in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Fans went frenzy after the final whistle, and Mr. Ankrah has pleaded for patience.
“Maybe the supporters were expecting a basket full of goals, but we must understand that we are playing an equally good team,” he said after the game.
“They’re a team that are representing their country and I believe that they played very well, they had a game plan and the game plan was to make sure that the goal margin stayed at it’s minimal.”
Mr. Ankrah further admitted that the team wasted good opportunities to give themselves an advantage ahead of the second leg in Cotonou.
“At the end of the day, I think we should have scored more goals because the opportunities came and we wasted most of them in this match. I believe that had we taken our chances, but we could have gotten 3 or 4 [goals], but at the end of the day, is football, we won 1-0 and is still a win. All we need to do is go back to the drawing board and look at how to play the away game,” he added.
Accra Hearts of Oak will travel to Benin for the second leg next week. The winner on aggregate will qualify to the second round of the competition.
