Statistics and Preview: Hearts face AS Police in Confederation Cup

-This is going to be the first meeting between Hearts of Oak and AS Police of Benin.

-Hearts have played against a club from Benin, once in any African inter-club competition and that was 30 years ago, when they defeated Lions de l’Atakory 4-0 on aggregate in the first round of the Champions’ Cup.

-As Police will take on a Ghanaian side for the very first time.

Hearts of Oak
-Hearts have had a poor start to the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League, winning 2, losing  3 and drawing 2, lying 12 on the league table.

-Hearts’ top scorer is Gilbert Fiamenyo, with 5 goals, but has failed to score in his last four games.

-They had a 2-1 shocking defeat to New Edubiase on match day 7

-Hearts are representing Ghana in the CAF Confederation, by virtue of the fact that they finished third on the league log and Kotoko who won double of FA Cup and League titles, took the CAF Champions League slot. Meanwhile Kpando Heart of Lions who came second declined their decision to participate in Confederations Cup, paving way for Hearts to take their place.

-The Phobians were the winners of the CAF Champions League in 2000 and were the champions of the maiden edition of the CAF Confederations Cup, 10 years ago and have not participated in the competition, following that success.

-The last time Hearts played in any Africa Inter-club competition was in 2008, when FC 105 of Gabon knocked them out in the preliminary stage.

AS Police
They are on top of the Benin league log after 5 games with 3 wins and 2 draws

-As Police are participating in the CAF Confederations Cup, after emerging winners of the Benin FA Cup, however they placed 7 in the Benin top flight league.

-This is their debut appearance in any Africa Inter-club competition.
