A ceremonial match to celebrate Ghana’s Independence and whip up the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among Ghanaians will be played between Accra Great Olympics and Kumasi Asante Kotoko on March 6 at the Accra Stadium.
The match, which is expected to feature the top players of both teams, is expected to draw a full house to the Accra Stadium.
According to the organisers, MySports Organisation and Despite Group of Companies, a large portion of the gate proceeds from the duel will be given to the two participating teams to support their respective campaigns in the ongoing premiership.
Mr Anim Addo, CEO of MySports Organisation, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that the match, dubbed ‘Independence Cup’, has a trophy at stake for the eventual champion.
“Other prizes and rewards will also be at stake for deserving players, well-behaved soccer fan, best supporters group and the most disciplined player and fan of the day,” he revealed.
He noted that a curtain-raiser will be played between Peace FM and UTV staff prior to the main match of the day.
He lauded the efforts of Kingdom Herbal for ensuring the realisation of the competition and sponsoring the event.
Mr Addo expressed gratitude to Despite Group of Companies for their support and entreated Ghanaians to troop to the stadium on March 6 to witness good football.
