Last Witness For Kombian

Johnson Kombian , the convicted jail bird who is standing trial at the Accra Fast Track High Court for the murder of two police officers at the Nakpanduri Scarp, will close his case after bringing one more witness.

Lawyer for the accused person, George Assamaney,ย  told the court presided overย  by Mustapha Habib Logoh that the witness they were expected to bring to courtย  was unavailable so they would get one more witness to testify, after which they would close their case.

The trial judge subsequently adjourned the case to February 18, 2015.

Moses Lariba, the childhood friend of the suspect who testified at the last hearing, said he was the friend of the accused person and that he had known him for several years.

In his evidence in chief led by George Assamaney, who is counsel for the accused person, the witness said prior to October 17, 2010 Kombian had informed him he would be travelling to Togo.

He said he did not see the accused person for sometime but added that during that time he also lost one of his children so he could not say for a fact that he saw the suspect travelling.

The suspect has denied the charges levelled against him in his evidence, saying that he did not have anything to do with the deaths of the police officersโ€”Constables Prince Agyare and Owusu Frimpongโ€”and that he did not shoot the surviving police officer, Constable Osei Bonsu.

The suspect has told the court that he was not even in Ghana on November 17, 2010โ€”the day the police officers were killedโ€”as he was in Togo and could not have been the one who shot the officers. He also complained of police brutality and the burning of his house by the police when they were looking for him.

He denied that any court had ever convicted him of robbery and challenged anybody who had evidence to that effect to prove so, adding that he had nothing against the police officers to want to kill them.

About six witnesses have so far testified against Kombian, including ASP Mumuni Abdulai, the former District Police Commander for Bunkprugu Yunyoo, the pathologists who conducted post-mortem on the deceased policemen and the surviving police officer in the attack, Constable Osei Bonsu.
