Portions of the Darra Army Barracks in Kumasi in the Ashanti region have been razed down.

About six rooms have been torched as fire fighters struggle to extinguish the inferno which is fast spreading.

According to Joseph Oppong Brenya of Ultimate FM, the fire which started about an hour ago is proving difficult to douse, but the military is helping personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to fight the fire.

“Some of the buildings belonging to the military are on fire. I can count about six rooms on fire now,” Brenya said.

“The fire fighters are battling with it and the cause is not yet known. The commander of the northern sector is here and the fire fighters are having troubles battling the fire.”
