Renowned Gospel Songstress, Obaapa Christy, formerly known as Christian Love stunned listeners of Atinka FM last Tuesday when she did a rendition of Daddy Lumba’s chart-topping song, ‘Yentie Obiaa’ live on air.
She sang the song perfectly leaving many listeners wondering whether she was not courting controversy for herself as a respected Gospel Musician.
However, she explained to the host of Atinka Fm’s mid-morning show, “Edwuma oo”, Roman Fada that there was nothing wrong with a gospel musician singing secular music.
According to her, secular music is not evil and that lyrical content is what matters. “Many of these so-called secular musicians offer inspiration and direction to people; some even offer fruitful advice to the depressed in society,” Obaapa Christy noted.
The Gospel singer said she admires secular artistes like Samini, Kwaw Kese, Kwabena Kwabena, Daddy Lumba, Sarkodie amongst others simply because of dedication and commitment to their work.
“I sometimes take inspiration from them; I enjoy Samini’s music as well as his energetic stage performances,” the ‘No fears’ hit singer told her host.
“If you want to improve your music career, you should be selective; you must learn from difference artistes particularly, their stage performances and the quality they add to the various compositions,” she said.
