Asante Kotoko Players Celebrate

Berekum Chelsea brushed aside Bechem United 4-2 in the Brong Ahafo derby. Striker Kofi Owusu scored the first hat-trick of the season for the Blues to take his tally to five and Baffour Asare Stephen added another to also take his tally to five goals before Noah Martey pulled two back for the visitors.

Owusu broke the game’s bareness in the 14th minute before scoring again 30 minutes later and wrapped up a memorable evening with his third goal nine minutes from time.

Defending champions Asante Kotoko’s woes went from bad to worse when regional rivals AshantiGold inflicted yet another defeat after losing to Hearts of Oak last weekend at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Striker Latif Amadu who started ahead of Ahmed Toure poked the Porcupine Warriors’ noses in front in the 14th minute but Yakubu Mohammed drew the homesters even from the spot in the 39th minute before Bernard Morrison won all the points at stake for the Miners 30 minutes later to cement their grip of the first place. The win sends The Miners five points clear of second placed Aduana and 10 points of Kotoko who now lie 8th on the log.

Hearts of Oak despite winning 1-0 against Kotoko last Saturday were stunned at their own backyard by two quick goals from New Edubiase’s Fuseinu Nuhu and Nuhu Alhassan in the 42nd and 45th minute although the Phobians South African defender, Shaun October pulled one back with 10 minutes to go but Herbert Addo’s men puffed and huffed for the equaliser but to no avail and they have dropped to the 12th position, one point above relegation zone.

At the T&A Park, Medeama SC pipped Great Olympics 3-2 with goals from Benjamin Bature, Joseph Tetteh and Kwame Boahene and the latter’s goal emerged the 100th goal of the season on the stroke of half time. Agbashie Dotse scored a brace for Olympics who will bite their fingers for missing several chances but another brace by Mathew Antwi proved priceless for Sogakope-based WAFA who defeated Liberty Professionals 2-0.

In Wa, All Stars lost their first home game of the season against in-form Heart of Lions. Striker Samuel ‘Ayew’ Yeboah scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute. Another brace from Sherrif Mohammed moved Inter Allies to third on the log. The goal poacher scored in the 3rd and 32nd minute at the Tema Sports Stadium against Dormaa-based Aduana Stars.

In Sunyani, a second half penalty by Francis Kyeremeh eased the pressure on B.A United who pipped Hasaacas 1-0 at the Sunyani Coronation Park. B.A United have now moved from the bottom of the table to 14th.
