FIFA RANKINGS: Black Stars climb 12 places


The Black Stars have moved 12 places up in the latest FIFA world ranking to 25 on the back of their performance at the just ended African Cup of Nations.

Avram Grant’s side finished 2nd at the biggest African showpiece in Equatorial Guinea and are ranked 3rd in Africa with 864 points, surpassing their previous 714 points from January 2015.

Algeria at No. 18 leads African nations and Iran is Asia’s best, rising 10 places to No. 41.

African Cup of Nations winner Ivory Coast rose eight places to No. 20 in the monthly FIFA rankings and 2nd in Africa, with African minnows Equatorial Guinea jumping a huge 69 places to be ranked 49 in the world on the back of their African Cup of Nations performance, where they finished fourth when losing a penalty shootout to DR Congo.

Germany leads an unchanged top seven, followed by Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil and Portugal.

France fell out of a tie with Portugal to No. 8, and Uruguay and Spain traded places as Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

Costa Rica climbed three to No. 13 and leads CONCACAF nations.

Tunisia, Cape Verde, Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, Cameroon and DR. Congo constituted the top ten teams on the African Continent.
