The deputy captain of Ghana said losing for the second time in the final of the Nations Cup was unbearable and that accounted for his irrepressible weeping

Ghana winger Andre Ayew said he had to shed uncontrollable tears after the Black Stars lost to Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations final because it was too much to bear.

That was the Marseille player’s second Afcon final loss with the first being Angola 2010 against Egypt.

The four-time African champions succumbed in a 9-8 penalty shootout against the Elephants on Sunday in Equatorial Guinea, a game that was a total repetition of Senegal 1992.

“The feeling of losing a second Afcon final got me very emotional and I couldn’t control it,” Ayew told the press in Accra. “It was really difficult for me to take.”

According to him, the Black Stars were the best team of the final and should have annexed the trophy.

“I thought we just deserved the trophy. We played well and put in a lot of effort,” he said.

Ayew, who was voted the top scorer of the tournament, scored three goals and provided two assists.
