Daily Guide Reporter Petitions IGP

Daily Guide’s reporter in the Eastern Region Daniel Bampoe has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what he describes as threats from the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi.

The reporter has in recent times written stories about the strained relationship between the deputy minister and his wife which made front page headlines.

Armed with the voice recordings of the deputy minister, he said he does not doubt the capacity of the MP to harm him.

A portion of the petition reads, ‘I have in my possession a recording of the threats which I can make available should you demand it.’

Daniel Bampoe, per his petition, seeks the intervention of the IGP in the matter which has been repeated by a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart in the Lower Manya constituency of the Eastern Region.

In the voice recording, the deputy minister is heard saying ‘thank you very much. I’ve seen your story in front page right! And is that twist you have given it? Thank you. You are a young man and you will see how you are going to survive in this country.’

The Deputy Constituency Secretary of the NDC Eric Tettey Kwame also said, ‘This is Eric, the guy you called the other time and I told you to speak with my secretary. I am the Deputy Secretary Lower Manya.

I want to ask you somethingโ€ฆwhy are you trying to destroy our man (Terlabi) like that.

You try to put yourself in the MP’s shoes. If it were to be you what would you do? You are tarnishing the man’s image too much. As for this one, Lower Manya will never forgive you. The other one we trashed it out. People were even trying to harass you and we cooled them down but for this one Lower Manya people will never forgive you because you are tarnishing the man’s image too much.ย  If there are some paymasters behind you then you will all not succeed.’

Touching on why he chose to report the matter to the IGP and not the Eastern Regional Police Command, he stated in the petition ‘I did not report the threats to the Eastern Regional Police Command because I do not have the confidence that they would be able to deal with the complaint without a bias.’
