Ahanta DCE Sacked

Information reaching  DAILY GUIDE  indicates that some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ahanta West constituency of the Western Region are not happy with President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to remove the District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Dofoyena, from office.

President John Mahama, in a statement yesterday sacked the Ahanta West DCE.

Even though no reasons were given in the statement signed by the Local Government Minister, Julius Debrah, some supporters of the party, especially the youth who are aligned to the DCE, asserted that it was the Member of Parliament for the area, George Aboagye, who masterminded the removal of Mr Joseph Dofoyenah.

They alleged that the MP had earlier indicated that he could no longer work with Joseph Dofoyenah – a statement which angered majority of the NDC members in the constituency.

The NDC activists noted that the MP subsequently wrote to President John Mahama to remove the DCE from office because he was performing poorly in the area.

According to the NDC youth, it was the DCE who did all the ‘donkey work’ to ensure the victory of the MP in the constituency.

Some of the youth also accused Mr Aboagye of having a very sharp tongue and always ready to insult anybody at the least provocation.

‘We did not like the way our MP openly and bitterly insulted Joseph Dofoyenah, the Ahanta West DCE,’ they fumed.

The NDC youth have therefore warned of possible skirmishes if President Mahama did not reinstate Dofoyenah as the DCE for the area.

It would be recalled that the alleged feud between the MP and the DCE led to the forcible locking up of the Ahanta West constituency office of the NDC by some youth activists in the area.

The visibly aggrieved party activists used pieces of wood to seal off the main gate of the constituency office, making it difficult for party members to enter.

After nailing the office, the NDC youth cut branches of trees to block the entrance of the office.

4 New DCEs
The President has also nominated four district chief executives for Upper East and the Northern Regions.

Bukari Darimani and Seidu Cletus Dapila are heading to Upper East districts of Sisala West and Jirapa respectively.

David Wuni will be the president’s man in Mamprusi West as will Sampoa Timothy Larbi in Bunkpurugu Yunyoo district in the Northern Region.

The President has also re-nominated Alhaji Alhassan Musah as DCE for Kumbungu.

The nominees will need confirmation by the district assemblies before they settle down to work.
