A Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 29-year-old security guard, Abdul Abubakar, to one month imprisonment for negligence of duty.
The presiding officer, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, jailed Abubakar after pleading guilty to the charge.
He, however, gave Abubakar an option of N5,000 fine.
Abubakar, who lives at Katampe Extention, Gwarimpa, is being tried for negligent conduct.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, had earlier told the court that the offence was reported at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Feb. 4, by one Zeph Chukwuka of Gwazongo, Kubwa, Abuja.
He said the accused was employed to guard some building materials at a site in Katampe Extention but they were stolen due to his negligence.
He said 22 cartons of 1.92 meters of tiles, 19 cartons of swimming pool tiles and 4 pieces of granite slabs were stolen.
Idi said the offence contravened section 196 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
