Controversial rapper Kwaw Kese, known in real life as Emmanuel Botchwey has revealed that he was forced to entertain his colleagues in the Kumasi remand cells when life became too boring.

Kwaw Kese was arrested in Kumasi on November 22, 2014 for smoking a banned substance, weed. He was granted bail on December 30, after three failed attempts.

Justice William Boampong reluctantly adjourned hearing to February 13 but threatened to set the rapper free if the prosecution failed to present a witness.

This is the fourth time the case has been adjourned.

But speaking on Adom FM’s midmorning show Work and Happiness on Tuesday, Kwaw Kese noted that prisoners always hail him wherever he finds himself, a situation he describes as very encouraging.

“I must say that conditions in the prison were not favorable at all but with all that, I try as much as possible to put smiles on their faces because I became part of them. In fact, they were all over me” he told show host Ohemaa Woyeje.

He confirmed that the prisons are over crowded leading to different kinds of sicknesses and skin diseases. “I was able to at least lie on a bed during my stay in the prisons but I must tell you that it is not an easy thing” he cried.

He is due to release a new song titled ‘Yakubu’ based on his experience in the prison, he revealed.

“Yakubu was my name in prison and so a new song with that title is in the pipeline and would be released very soon. I thank God for even sending me to prison because I have learnt a lot and would not wish that my friends go to that place” he indicated.

He used the opportunity to thank his fellow musicians who according to him were very supportive while in prison.

On February 14, the Abodam hit maker will be donating some items at the Kumasi Central Prison and the Children’s Ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in appreciation for the help they gave him during his stay at the two institutions.
