Black Stars Return

The President of Ghana, John Mahama has announced that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation will pay each Black Stars player US$25,000 for achieving a silver medal feat at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The amount will be added to the US$50,000 bonus package each player bagged for reaching the final of the final of the continental tournament.

“We have some rewards for you. GNPC is your headline sponsor, and GNPC had made a promise to reward you when you come back. And, so GNPC has asked me to announce that they will give you a reward of US$25,000 to each of you,” Mahama said during a breakfast meeting with the players at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Tuesday.

The Black Stars, who arrived from Bata on Monday, settled for silver at the Equatorial Guinea 2015 after losing 9-8 on penalties to Ivory Coast in the final of the competition.

It was Ghana’s second AFCON final in five years after losing to Egypt in the final of the Angola 2010 tournament.
